Blue Knights New York IV was founded in 1986 by a small group of NYS Corrections officers from the Groveland Correctional Facility in Sonyea, Livingston County, NY.  Since those modest beginnings, NY IV has grown to become a vibrant part of the Blue Knights national organization.  Our activities and accomplishments equal those of much larger chapters.  Throughout our history, New York IV has organized or participated in charity events for, among many others, the American Cancer Society, United Cerebral Palsy, the Kali Poulton Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, the Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC), Strong Memorial Hospital's Children's Center, and Lifetime Assistance, Inc.  NY IV was also a sponsoring chapter of the former "Attica - 9/11 Memorial Ride," commemorating those corrections officers slain during the 1971 Attica Prison riot, and law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty throughout the country, particularly during the Sept 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on our nation. Following the retirement of the Attica Ride event, NY IV for several years sponsored "Operation Patriot," an annual event held each September 11 weekend, honoring all first responder and military personnel. We also have supported the Genesee Valley Chapter of C.O.P.S. (Concerns Of Police Survivors) and a "Christmas in July" Toy Ride to benefit the Golisano Children's Center at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. This event brings hundreds of toys to the hospitalized children at a time of year when many are forgotten.

NY IV continues to be very active in the promotion and organization of charitable motorcycle events throughout New York State, but particularly in Western New York.

Each year, many members of New York IV travel to the Blue Knights International Convention and Tri-State Conference Annual Weekends held on the Columbus Day holiday weekends each October. In addition, NY IV has hosted five Tri-State Conference Weekends here in WNY.  Our first took place in 1999, in the city of Rochester.  In 2002, we co-hosted with NY 27 in Alexandria Bay, NY.  In 2008, we hosted the TSC in Henrietta, a suburb of Rochester, and in 2014 we again hosted the conference, this time in Batavia, NY.  We returned as TSC hosts in 2019, once again in Batavia, NY.

Our current membership - 55 as of June 11, 2021 - draws from all facets of the law enforcement community, and includes active and retired personnel of every rank from city, town and village police departments, county sheriffs' offices, the New York State Police, the state departments of Corrections and Parole, and the U.S. Border Patrol. New York IV at one time even boasted having a member of the state Assembly among its ranks. It should be readily apparent no current or former rank is too great or too modest to be included on our roster.

New York IV's "jurisdiction" as a Blue Knights chapter covers an area defined by a roughly 50-mile radius from our original Groveland - Sonyea Charter address; the NY IV region extends along the Interstate Route 390 corridor, from the shores of Lake Ontario to New York's Southern Tier. This region includes all or part of the counties of Allegany, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Orleans, Ontario, Steuben, Wayne and Wyoming.

During the year, NY IV holds a membership meeting each month, usually on the first Wednesday evening. Meetings are currently held at Peppermint's Restaurant, located on NYS Routes 5 and 20 in the village of Avon; meetings begin promptly at 7 p.m. All members, their family members, visiting Blue Knights and potential new members are welcome to attend.  Following each meeting, NY IV publishes a monthly newsletter on this site, reporting our activities and meeting business. We send the newsletters and maintain contact with our members via email, and forward the newsletters to our Tri-State Conference partners as well. This use of electronic media has been duplicated by many other Blue Knights chapters, in an effort to improve communications among all those in our Blue Knights family.
